The right aquarium sand can really finish off an aquascape and create a totally different look to a traditional planted aquarium. Using it to create divides like a river bed provides a very natural looking scape modelled on mother natures designs. Remember sands are not geared towards anchoring plants down - sure they work for this but the compact nature of a sand means oxygen struggles to pass through it and therefore dead spots are created which can become anaerobic. If you're looking for something for your plants to anchor down in, choose either a nutrient rich substrate or a gravel with nutrients under it. https://aquaessentials.co.uk/
