Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi and other democratic representatives came together at the U.S. Capitol to push for continued funding for the 988 Suicide and Crisis Hotline’s LGBTQ+ Youth Specialized Services According to a statement published on Krishnamoorthi's page, the hotline, which has handled nearly 1.5 million calls, texts, and chats since its 24/7 launch in Mar. 2023. The helpline has served over 600,000 young people in 2024 alone. LGBTQ+ youth, facing suicide rates four times higher than their peers, with one attempting suicide every 45 seconds.
